Umbra is made by one person. Email is the fastest way to reach me.

Please say which phone you use (iPhone or Android) and which version of Umbra is installed. Never send your QR code or a screenshot of your chats.

How do I add someone?

Open Contacts and tap + at the top right. Show your QR for them to scan, or tap Scan to read theirs. You must be together in person — there is no way to add someone remotely.

Why can I not find someone by name or number?

Umbra has no directory, no username and no phone number on purpose. That is what keeps strangers out. Meet up and scan each other's QR code.

I am not getting calls or notifications

Leave Umbra in the background. If you force-quit it, nothing arrives until you open it again.
Check that notifications for Umbra are turned on in your phone's settings.
Notifications only wake the app. They never contain your message text.

I got a new phone

Chats and contacts live only on your old phone, so they do not move by themselves. With Umbra Pro you can export an encrypted contact backup and import it on a new phone of the same kind (iPhone to iPhone, Android to Android). Otherwise, scan QR codes again to re-add your contacts.

Umbra Pro

Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks unlimited contacts, App Lock, encrypted contact backup and custom photo avatars. To restore it on a new phone, sign in with the same Apple ID or Google account and tap Restore purchases in Umbra. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google.
